KNOW OUR LAND

Tierra de Barros is characterized by the reddish color of its soil marked by the clay that covers the surface over calcareous rock. This makes our environment rich in nutrients and fertile, which, thanks to our privileged climate, make our land the wine capital of the region. This privileged context makes the vineyards proliferate, from which the grapes from which our wines and cavas are made.

Our technicians and collaborating farmers cultivate more than 300 hectares to supply our winery with the necessary raw material with which we shape each of our wines and cavas.

For as long as this land can remember, the predominant grape varieties have been Pardina and Cayetana, but our winery has always been committed to innovation, and when it comes to extracting the richness that this land gives us, we have encouraged our farmers to introduce new varieties such as Macabeo and Verdejo in white, Garnacha, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, thus turning Tierra de Barros into the heart of the Ribera del Guadiana Denomination of Origin.

Most of our wines, oriented to go to market as crianzas or reserves, come from vines planted in goblet, dry land and with an age of more than twenty years, all of them of the Tempranillo variety.

However, Tierra de Barros is not only known for its wines, as it is one of the four regions in Spain with the exclusive D.O. Cava. Thanks to our tradition and following the rigorous procedures for the elaboration of cava, Viñedos de Almendralejo has become one of the national references in the production of cava. 

Of the infinite row of vineyards that make up Tierra de Barros, 40 of these hectares are our property, which we use to produce Xarel-lo cava, one of the cavas with the most personality in the Barros region.
